Sadly now 3 offers Huawei E1550, which is ‘too new’ for my Dell Mini 9 running the pre-installed Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), even with the third-party Vodafone driver….

Works perfectly on Linux Mint 5 (64-bit) edition, which is based on Hardy.

Thank you very much, I’ve been searching for this solution for ages!

Now the only reason I am not ditching Windows is the Flight Simulator 10!

I’ve just got the Hauwei E160G from 3 on the same package as your brother and I’m running Hardy Heron. I’ve had a variety of error messages trying to run the Vodafone software, but on the 5th attempt it decided the modem was an E240 and let me enter the network settings you’ve given. Works perfertly, so thank you very much for making that extremely pain free!

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply, I have downloaded the driver but when I click on it it comes up with a package installer window ( I think but a window none the less ) which says Error:dependency is not satisfiable:python serial, it sure uses big words, what is it telling me? I have I have Ubuntu 7.10 instaled but have noticed that there is a 8.4 version should I upgrade or is that not how it works I have a long way to go here but will perservere, thanks again for your help and patience All the best Pat

Hi I have installed Ubuntu on my comp. and would dearly love to keep it but have been unable to instal my Huawei E22o 3G USB modem have been to site as suggested to download the mobile connect card drivers but don’t know which ones to download as none seem to be for Ubuntu Iam not very comp savy and of an older age so things need to be spelled out for me but if you could just point me in the right direction I’m sure thru trial and error I might even get there thanking yoy in advance All the best Pat

After trawling the web trying to fix my dns, you came up trumps.

I wouldn’t touch MS Windows with a barge pole, so wouldn’t have come up with the idea, but your endeavours did me proud today.

Thanks to both Chris and Alec. I tried a few different ways using wvdial, but using both the above bits of advice instead has me connected at last. The DNS server change is a bit of a surprise? Anyway its working now, thanks again.

I did the above, and it connected OK, but then it said that the host had set an invalid DNS server. By using the Modem in a Windows system, I determined that the DNS servers were 4.2.2.4 and 4.2.2.3. Setting these manually got it to work. (It also worked on my Asus EeePC, using the same tricks).
