More reasons why Vista Looks Crap

Most businesses don’t seem to be that enthused about upgrading to Vista, at least until the first service pack is released. That’s a bugger for Microsoft, what can they do?

Behold Windows Vista Service Pack 1 due for release second half of this year !

But what pray tell is addressed in this service pack… New super power toys? Features? Little tweaks to the desktop appearance? Erm nah. Microsoft tells us that:

“regressions from Windows Vista and Windows XP, security, deployment blockers and other high impact issues as are the primary focus for the Service Pack.”

What? I hear you ask… Microsoft has released Vista before fixing these ‘high impact issues’, and it goes live with all of these problems, and it costs more than XP?

Erm yeah…. Sorry!

Additionally worryingly is this statement from the article:

“Issues will surface from the deployments as well as throughout the program as end users test its limits thought their day-to-day activities.”

Disregarding the confusion between thought and through, it’s slightly worrying that the limits of Windows Vista SP1 are expected to be reached during the performance of ‘day-to-day activities’…

Ooooh bugger… If I where you I’d stick with XP, or better migrate to a Linux desktop.

And to think it probably cost them more to rush it out then door than wait just a few more months to work out the kinks. This is just going to annoy people who buy new PCs. Great job at PR, Microsoft!

To be fair, I think this is just another reason why this year just may be the year of the linux desktop!!!

You can just tweek things and re-arrange the pieces so much. XP is as far as Microsoft goes. Vista is all downhill. There’s nothing new. What does look a bit “extra” is very Apple……

I have evaluated Vista for our business and must say that I believe there are more problems and unfinished concepts in it than any SP1 could fix.

I’m sure it will be published when the “Longhorn” Server 2008 starts shipping, but I’m sure that the real problems in Vista won’t be fixed.

For me Vista is a Windows version with a very low life expectancy that will be replaced by the next version in very short time. Very much like Windows ME, where Windows 98SE (regarded as somehow “stable” and “reliable” those days) was “improved” to death.

For me, Vista is for the Windows NT/2K/XP series what ME was for W9x.

    Hi Mettlog.

When I wrote the article I had a sneaking suspicion that things wouldn’t get any better ;-)

Personally I’m migrating everything I can across to Ubuntu which I’ve found to be more than capable in most departments. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of a gui tool for joining active directory (but that’s in the pipeline.) If you don’t mind setting that particular part up through the CLI then you don’t have a problem though..

Window vista is similar to window xp. It will take microsoft a few more years to complete a better version of xp.

Heya Folks, this would be my first time to complain or write a letter as such but ive never been so frustrated with a “brand new” product as this..

I had some severe crash problems on my new (no downloads at all) cpu with vista. I tried to contact microsoft via email, damn imposible without error messages.. get thet >.>
then i tried the phone, got passed around like hot potato, then i even PAID to contact a bussiness line to get someone to fix this garbage OS. They garbled it “by accident” with frequency and said sorry sir’ we cant help you please try later… wtf…
    so..
every avenue i could try to contact microsoft was in no uncertain terms blocked, and yet if i try to wipe my OS for a working XP i void the manufactures warrenty.. what in gods good name is Bill Gates doing?! trying to fck himself!?.. dont fck your consumers when macintosh will save them
