Quick Karoo Max Update

In a quick update to the Karoo Max farce, the Karoo User Group reports that download speeds are getting better.

A visit to the Karoo status page indicates ongoing maintenance to the ADSL network, so we can only hope Karoo are sorting their problems out.

The Karoo User Group also writes: “There are ‘rumours’ that KC were waiting for the delivery/commission of new hardware to support the higher volumes of traffic generated by the Karoo Broadband Max services, but the KUG are unable to comment on the accuracy of these ‘rumours’.”

Personally I’d have thought it a good idea for Kingston Communications to finish building their 8Mbps network before selling it to us…..

Update: After being approached by a fellow Karoo user for help, Just Uber was happy to give a home to The Unofficial Karoo User Forums. They’re run by a nice chap called Dylan who is trying to build a place where Karoo users can talk about their experiences. You can find me in there under the name lefty ;-)

Not only is the network not finished, its also only running at half the speed of 8mbit (for me anyway.)

Add onto the fact that they’ve also limited the download speeds on p2p/torrents/usenet, and this is clear to see it is NOT and upgrade from the old karoo 1mbit,2mbit,3mbit packages, but instead is a HUGE downgrade.

We now have 4mbit download (if you’re lucky), xxGB limit a month, and no usenet/torrents/p2p either.

Karoo is a joke, and the sooner everyone boycotts them until they pull their finger out and start getting in-line with the rest of the uk services better. The longer people just continue to sit on their sofa and whine about it, the longer this crap will continue.

Send an email to karoo and Offcom, and complain about karro’s business model/customer treatment and we might actually get something done about them!

Hi Dave, Check out the next post here ‘Karoo Max Speed Test Result’. I’ve put my rather crappy bandwidth stats up there. Feel free to list your own too if you like…

If you go to the top of this page, you’ll see a link to that post above the title of this one.

ALL karoo customers should NOW get together and create an online petition to present to our member of parliament and the trading standards bureau. Maybe the monopolies commission too?
I only get 19% of my expected bandwidth at best; it’s usually worse than this!!!
If that is the best they can do then I should only pay for the bandwidth I actually have available; therefore I should only pay 19% of my monthly subscription charges, that would be much fairer and I’m sure EVERYONE out there would agree with this? – So what can we ALL do about it NOW. We (Karoo customers) must unite and pull together as an online community otherwise our complaints will fall on deaf ears or even NO ears at all! Can anyone suggest how we might go about achieving a satisfactory result?

F.Y.I. I wrote to watchdog; maybe we all should?

    HERE: http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/contact_index.shtml

Thank you for taking the time to write to BBC Watchdog…

Because we receive so many emails, faxes, letters and phone calls, we are unable to respond personally to each and every one. However, your correspondence will be read by our research team and if we are able to pursue your complaint, a researcher from the Consumer Unit will contact you.

    Once again, many thanks
